Following a series of calamities that left civilization in shambles, societies around the world are being rebuilt anew in harmony with nature. Scotland lies in ruins and the ancient clans have taken it upon themselves to restore the land. As clan leaders you will compete for strategic control of the land by rebuilding its prestigious castles.
Rebirth is a new, tile-laying game from Reiner Knizia. The game revitalizes this classic genre by combining Knizia's elegant mechanics with Mighty Boards' evocative world building. The result is a eurogame with smooth gameplay, set in a lush and hopeful future.
Each turn, players draw a tile from their supply and place it strategically on the board. These tiles represent your clan's contribution to rebuilding the land. Rebirth rewards strategic foresight and clever tactical play, with tougher decisions emerging over the course of the game.

Amazing tile placement game with a two sided map that is great for beginners and then also an additional challenge for more seasoned players. Easy set up and execution.
Rebirth is a medium-weight Reiner Knizia tile-laying game for 2-4 players. In a post-apocalyptic world, survivors have formed clans that are rebuilding lands of either Scotland (basic) or Ireland (advanced). Simple mechanics: place a randomly drawn tile from your bag of farms, energy, or settlements, onto the board, score points, and draw a tile to prepare for your next turn. Scoring is also simple: gain points for your connecting tiles of the same type, or when a town is completed and you earn a share of points based on whoever has more settlement tiles. There are hidden endgame objective cards to collect at cathedral spaces, and you place your 3D castle markers to show who controls the various castle spaces on the board, earning 5 points per castle during endgame scoring. Once all players have placed all their tiles, the game ends and you score castles and any achieved hidden objectives.
The game plays very quickly and there are many juicy decisions to make with placing your one tile per turn. Do I go for connecting farms or energy to gain quick points now, or do I vie for control of castles for endgame points? Do I want to block my opponent from a big score, or focus on my own points? All the while you want to do everything, but you only have one tile to place each turn, and you have fewer and fewer tiles left in your bag.
I rate this a 4 out of 5 stars after 2 plays on the Scotland map only. It may go higher after playing a few more times and trying the Ireland map.
If you like tile laying games and/or Reiner Knizia, Rebirth is a solid pick for a medium weight game that you can finish with new players in less than 90m. The deluxe version comes with thicker tiles, bags, and tiny player miniatures, but functionally it is exactly the same as the regular version.
